The Fall Semester 2013 number one ranked boys player is Edali Salazar. Edali is currently a sophomore at Denton High School.

Broncos Finish 3rd at District – Clerihew Advances

The Denton Bronco tennis team finished 3rd in the District 4-4A Tennis Tournament held in Denton April 2 and 3.   Denton High School junior Alex Clerihew advanced to the regional tournament as as the district 4-4A runner up in Boys Singles.  Clerihew faced the second ranked player in the state, Wichita Falls Rider’s Conner Curry, in the finals of the tournament.  Curry, a sophomore at Rider, had not lost a game in the district 4-4A tournament until facing Clerihew.  Curry defeated Clerihew 6-2, 6-0 as Alex claimed 2 games in the match.

Alex Clerihew and Denton Ryan’s Marti Gay were the only players to advance from outside of Wichita Falls.  Wichita Falls High and Wichita Fall Rider together claimed a 8 of the 10 regional tournament spots.  Denton High finished 3rd in the team scores and Ryan High 4th.  Team scores were based on total winning matches in the tournament.

Alex Clerihew advance to the regional tournament in Abilene April 16 and 17 for the right to go to the state tournament in Austin.

DHS’s Alex Clerihew Reaches District Tennis Final

Denton High School Junior Alex Clerihew will play for the District 4-4A Boys Singles Tennis Championship on Tuesday April 3rd.  Clerihew, the number two seed for the tournament, reached the finals of the district tennis tournament with a win in the quarterfinals over Anudeep Draksharapu from The Colony 6-0, 6-0 and in the semi-finals over Jacob Sellers of Wichita Falls Rider 6-1, 6-3.  Clerihew will play the number one seed in the tournament Connor Curry from Rider in the Tournament Championship at 7:30am on Tuesday.   The championship match will be held at the Waranch Tennis Complex at the University of North Texas.   The top two finishers in the district tournament will advance to the regional tournament later this month.

Broncos win 5 of 8 Singles Matches vs Byron Nelson HS

The Denton High tennis team won 5 of 8 singles matches versus Trophy Club’s Byron Nelson High School on Tuesday March 27.  Boys singles were led by # 1 player Alex Clerihew who decisively defeated the # 1 player for Byron Nelson 6-0, 6-0.  #2 Singles William Crouch won both of his matches  defeating the # 2 player for Byron Nelson 6-2, 6-1 and beating Nelson’s # 1 player 9-8 (12-10).  In Girls singles , both Emily Fu and Rebecca Fu claimed wins for the Broncos.

The Broncos also had wins in Boys doubles and Girls doubles.  The team of Michael Heltsley and Chris Peters won their match 8-5 and in girls doubles the team of Estefani Escamilla and Luma Rashad claimed an 8-1 victory.

Next up for the Bronco Tennis team will be a match on Friday March 30th versus Azle High School at the Bronco Tennis Courts.  This is the final tune up for the Bronco Tennis Team before the district tournament begins on April 2nd.
