DHS Tennis Team Tryouts for 2021-2022

A Letter from Coach Blanco

Assistant Coach: TBA

Prospective DHS tennis players and parents,

I am glad that you are considering the DHS tennis program!  The program greatly emphasizes academics, fitness, competition and tennis skill development.  The high school has two teams: Varsity and JV. We have open positions on both teams.  Candidates for the varsity team must tryout in the round robin skills test.  All players that do not gain a position on the Varsity team will participate on the JV Team.  For beginning and intermediate players, no tennis skills test is necessary to make the JV team, just an interest in DHS tennis program.

Tryout schedule and requirements:

  1. Need a physical before tryouts (all players must fill out physicals and updates electronically at www.rankonesport.com.  Players without a physical will not be able to tryout or practice, below is a list of health centers to obtain school physicals.
    1. Freshmen and juniors must complete all 10 documents (physician required).
    2. Sophomores and seniors complete only first 8 documents (parents and students only).  You may need a physical, if your physical on school file is 2 years old.
  2. Tryouts:

Tennis skills test = Round robin tennis tournament, girls and boys at DHS tennis courts on
Monday, Aug. 2 through Wednesday Aug. 4, (2 weeks before school starts)
Girls from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Boys from 4 pm to 9 pm.

  3. Practice

The top four boys and top four girls’ varsity players remaining from last year will practice with the new 4 boys and 4 girls varsity players on: Thursday, Aug. 5 through Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 6 to 8 pm.

  4. The first J.V. Tennis Challenge matches is on Saturday, Aug. 14.  The first Varsity Match is on Tuesday, August 17, against R.L. Turner High School at 4:30 pm, at home.  Top 7 boys and top 7 girls will play on this match.
  5. All participants of the DHS Tennis Program need to be available on Saturdays to play additional games, tournaments, and/or challenge matches.

All players must have a medical doctor’s clearance and must bring inhalers if the player is diagnosed with asthma.

Looking forward for another remarkable School/Tennis year!
