Prospective DHS tennis players and parents,

I am pleased that you are considering the DHS tennis program! The program greatly emphasizes academics, fitness, competition and tennis skill development. The high school has two teams: Varsity and JV. We have open positions on both teams. Candidates for the varsity team must tryout in the round robin skills test. All players that do not gain a position on the Varsity team will participate on the JV Team. For beginning and intermediate players, no tennis skills test is necessary to make the JV team, just an interest in DHS tennis program.

Tryout schedule and requirements:

  1. Need a physical before tryouts (all players must fill out physicals and updates electronically at www.rankonesport.com Players without a physical will not be able to tryout or practice,
    1. Freshmen and juniors must complete all 10 pages (physician required).
    2. Sophomores and seniors complete only first 9 pages (parents and students only).
  2. Tryouts:
Tennis skills test = Round robin tennis tournament, girls at DHS tennis courts and Boys at Goldfield Tennis Center,
Thursday. Aug. 1 through Saturday. Aug. 3, from 8:00 am to 1: 00 pm. (2 weeks before school starts)
  3. Practice
The top four boys and top four girls’ varsity players remaining from last year will practice on:
Thursday. Aug. 1 through Friday. Aug. 2, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.
The new DHS varsity team will practice on Tue. Aug. 6 Through Fri. Aug. 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
  4. Meeting for Parents
In order to start the fall tennis season, there will be a mandatory meeting for parents and guardians on Monday, August 5 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at DHS Fieldhouse upstairs.
  5. The first match for the varsity team will be on Tuesday, August 20, against Eaton High School at 4:00 pm, at home and JV team will be on Thursday, August 22, away. Top 7 boys and top 7 girls of each team will play on these matches.
  6. All participants of the DHS Tennis Program need to be available on Saturdays to play additional games, tournaments, and/or challenge matches.

All players must have a medical doctor’s clearance and must bring inhalers if the player is diagnosed with asthma.

Looking forward for another wonderful School/Tennis year!
